Q: A song to steel your resolve for the 'Define the Relationship' discussion?
Or DTR as it is apparently known at the Brigham Young University in Utah (as I was pleased to be informed in this week's 'Savage Love'). So, yes my girlfriend is once again cancelling all appointments, suggesting time-out, and generally bringing the house of misery down on both our heads, for reasons that I, the male, have far too little right-sided brain matter to comprehend clearly. But I'm about to be DTR'd, and I need a theme song to steel my resolve: to listen, to empathise, to do it her waaaay ... (as my Dad used to only half-joke), and first and foremost not to explode.
This is off my favourite Violent Femmes album, Why do birds sing (1991). Favourite, because it's quirkier, happier, more psychotic than the landmark Hallowed Ground, and also because it was released when no one paid any attention to them anymore. Have mercy on me, I've got girl trouble up the ass ...
